A "Universal" Filler Material. We've found a great "Universal" filler that can be used on balsa or foam, and can be diluted to either be a firm sticky paste, or a more liquid, brush-on type material. You can make it from two common hardware store ingredients. First is Durham's Rock Hard Water Putty. This stuff looks sort of like corn meal, and comes in a cardboard can. Like the name implies, by itself it cures to a Rock Hard configuration. It's way too hard.. and too heavy.. for our model airplane applications. But if you mix it with DAP brand Light Weight Spackle (about 50/50), you get a fast curing filler, that is strong, but reasonably light weight. As a bonus, you can thin it out with water, and it makes a brushable filler that can be used on foam, balsa, obechi sheeting, etc.
